10. childhood.
vitasoy branded juiceboxes were the quintessential childhood drink for diasporic hong kong, first-gen kiddos like me. they were always a special treat because they’re expensive as far as juice boxes go, and because my mom didn’t like us having sugary treats all the time.
my mom always brewed her own chrysanthemum tea, it’s good when you’re “yeet hay” (canto for when your body gets too hot, too many fried foods or greasy shit). chrysanthemum tea was also the remedy to the constant nosebleeds i got as a kid (whatta fuckin nerd!), but man there’s nothing like reaching for a vitasoy box!
i got a lift to T&T this weekend and they were having a sale! 3 6packs for $6.99! i got the standard lemon tea, chrysanthemum tea, and lychee juice.
